Do I need a referral from my GP?

You do not need a referral to access therapy or counselling at ThrivePath. You can contact us directly to schedule an appointment. However, if you wish to claim a Medicare rebate, a GP referral letter and Mental Health Care Plan are required. Please email these documents to us before your first session. 

What other referral options do I have?

We are an approved provider for: 

  • Open Arms (Department of Veterans Affairs -DVA).

  • National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)- Self-managed and Plan-managed clients.

  • Workers’ compensation schemes.

  • Some transport accident schemes.

If you wish to have your therapy funded by the Traffic Accident Commission (TAC) or WorkCover, a referral from your GP will be required.

If you wish to access therapy through Open Arms, you will need to be referred directly by the Open Arms program.

How long are the sessions?

  • Single sessions are 50 minutes

  • Extended sessions are 90 minutes

Unless otherwise agreed with your therapist.

Can I access ThrivePath through my private health insurance?

Yes, there are a number of private health providers who also offer you a rebate including :

  • HCF

  • Bupa

  • Teachers Health

  • Doctors' Health

  • St Lukes Health Insurance

  • Phoenix Health Fund

  • Teachers Union Health Fund

Please check with your insurer to confirm your coverage.

How much does a session cost?

Our fees vary depending on the service you are accessing and the extension of the session. Please contact us at 0402 985 372 for specific details.

How many sessions can I access with a Medicare rebate?

You are eligible for a Medicare rebate for up to 10 focused psychological sessions per calendar year.

Can I self-refer?

You are welcome to self-refer if you prefer not to be referred by a GP, or if you are not eligible for a Mental Health Care Plan. Please note, however, that if you choose this option, you will not be eligible for a Medicare rebate.

What is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker?

Accredited Mental Health Social Workers are registered providers with Medicare Australia. We have been assessed by the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) on behalf of the Commonwealth Government, ensuring we have specialist training and expertise in mental health.

Similar to other allied health professionals such as psychologists, we utilise a range of focused psychological interventions to support individuals experiencing mental health challenges.

Can I access Medicare rebates when using ThrivePath services?

Yes, we are a Medicare-approved service, and you can access Medicare rebates when using ThrivePath therapy, as long as you provide us with a referral and a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from your GP. Please ask your GP to email the referral and MHCP to info@thrivepath.com.au and contact us to book your initial appointment.
